Ask Your Members of Congress to Support the Consumer Financial Protection Agency
The Issue
Congress is considering legislation to create a Consumer Financial Protection Agency (H.R. 3126) to guard us against misleading and unfair credit cards, loans and mortgages. In addition to giving consumers a much-needed watchdog, the Barney Frank (D-Mass.) bill would protect whistleblowers who will warn us of wrongdoing by the big banks and others in the financial industry.
But the big banks are spending hundreds of millions of dollars—from the billions they got in taxpayer-funded bailouts—on lobbyists and public relations firms to oppose real consumer protections. Some members of Congress are even siding with the banks; Rep. Melissa Bean (D-Ill.) will offer an amendment to the bill that would strip the right of states to have stronger consumer protections than federal law.
Make sure Congress hears from you! Use the simple form below to tell Congress that you want a strong Consumer Financial Protection Agency and a strong economy that works for all of us.
