Ask the UK government to freeze prices on essential products

Ask the UK government to freeze prices on essential products
The Issue
Our salary has been stagnating for 15 years, and it's time to start this campaign because ordinary people across the UK are struggling with bills and the living crisis. I believe this idea would be welcomed by everyone. It's time that we, the people of this nation, come first. With the cost of living spiralling out of control, we must think about our loved ones, our children, and the elderly being able to afford essential food in the UK, which is one of the richest countries in the world.
The proposal is to ask the government to introduce a price freeze on hundreds of essential products, including basic foodstuffs like milk, bread, eggs, and pasta, as well as hygiene products, beverages, cottage cheese, butter, nuts, prunes, apricots, vinegar, jam, tea, coffee, and frozen fish. These commodities form the backbone of everyday nutrition and hygiene, and their affordability directly impacts a household's financial health.
The aim of this measure is to curb inflation and alleviate the financial burden on vulnerable communities, thereby reducing the overall cost of living for everyone across the UK. With inflation rising steadily, many families are now finding themselves unable to keep up with the ever-increasing costs of basic necessities.
According to the Office for National Statistics, the Consumer Price Index in the UK has seen significant increases, affecting the purchasing power of the average citizen. Additionally, reports from major financial outlets like The Financial Times and BBC Business highlight an urgent need for government intervention in stabilizing the market.
A price freeze on these essential goods should be permanent as a critical relief mechanism to protect our citizens during these challenging times. We urge the government to take decisive action by implementing this measure, which will provide much-needed support to families, ensuring they can continue leading dignified lives without having to choose between putting food on the table or paying for other essential bills.
In Croatia, the government's decree on extraordinary price measures came into effect on February 7, setting price caps for seventy goods and imposing more severe penalties on stores that act irregularly. The Zagreb cabinet officially set the prices of seventy basic necessities due to the extent of the financial crisis and imposed three conditions on stores. One is that stores larger than four hundred square meters must have a separate section for price-capped products. The other is that one product must be selected from each product category that is on the list of price-capped products. That is, for example, one of the spaghetti pasta products that is on the store's offer must be sold at the official price, and if the designated product runs out of stock, another one in the same category must be offered instead. The third is that customers must be informed about price-capped products in a clearly visible place and manner in stores. These could be posters at the entrance or on the shelf.
In addition, the Croatian government has now introduced price caps on hundreds essential goods and stricter penalties for non-compliance, requiring larger stores to dedicate a separate section to these products. Customers must be made aware of the price caps in-store, and non-compliance can result in fines ranging from £3,000 to £30,000 pounds

Did you know that the price of your household basket has been increased by more than 50% within a year or so? This is what we called daylight robbery or Britain Rip Off. And to top it all off, like an icing on the cake, the supermarket announced in £££ billions in profits. They should be ashamed of themselves as well as the government for doing absolutely nothing to help the struggling households.
