The Issue

The Diocese of Wichita has announced a change to its immunization policy for Catholic schools that will take effect in the 2026–2027 school year. Under the new policy, families may claim religious exemptions from required vaccinations, allowing students to attend school without being immunized.

Many Catholic parents and community members are concerned about how this change may affect student health, school continuity, and the broader community. For years, diocesan schools have followed immunization standards aligned with public health guidance, helping to maintain safe and stable learning environments.

We respectfully ask the Diocese of Wichita to reconsider this policy change before it is fully implemented. At a minimum, we urge diocesan leadership to engage in broader consultation with parents, educators, medical professionals, and parish communities to carefully evaluate the potential impacts.

By signing this petition, we ask the Diocese to pause, listen, and thoughtfully review its recent changes to school immunization policy in the interest of student health, family stability, and the common good.
