Ask Pet Stores to Stop Selling Betta Fish in Tiny Containers

Ask Pet Stores to Stop Selling Betta Fish in Tiny Containers
The Issue
There is a general misconception and myth that these gorgeous fish live in "buffalo hoofprints" in Asia. The pubic is understandably upset upon seeing these sentient animals in tiny cups. They are told that the fish like it, that they will kill any other fish they see and that they live in puddles. The truth is, they die in those little cups of boredom, lack of oxygen, elevated nitrates from their own waste and illness brought on by the stress of being in those little cups. Furthermore, they do not live in puddles or hoofprints filled with rainwater. They have been found in these places but it is rare to find them there alive and it is not a good place for them to be, They are there because they landed there due to a drought or rainfall or other situation that flushed them out of their rivers and streams and into a puddle. We are told this lie to make us shut up about the little cups. Furthermore, Betta fish rarely fight to the death. They flare at eachother until one backs down. They have been spotted in community tanks in pet stores so they do get along with other fish. These three big chains need to find a better way to get these fish into their stores. If they refuse to purchase them in the little cups, the people who are raising them for sale will be forced to find a better way for the Betta fish. These fish are social, friendly, intelligent and require attention or they will become very depressed. Many die while in those little cups. Let's speak up for these little jewels of the water and ask Petco, Petland and Pet Supermarket to find a better way for the Bettas.
