They are informing everyone through email that they supported #BlackBreastfeedingWeek....on Twitter. They think we are slow to catch the difference in user experience on Twitter. You can bypass white followers who do not agree with your stance on your support of #BBW15 there but when it comes to a visible channel such as Facebook, you can't risk it so you delete the post.
I'm sorry #Medela but that is NOT advocating for educating and inspiring black mothers to breastfeed. What you did in such a visible way, was cower to racism that is still very much so alive today!
1) Issue a public apology to all that you have offended on your Facebook page.
2) Create photo and video content that is inclusive of ALL mothers.
3) Create a resource for education and support for mothers who need you. Your pump recycle program was great for people who need it but what about:
- Women who need access to a pump but do not have insurance?
- What about the mother that faces stigma for breastfeeding? Dive into the myths of breastfeeding for black mothers.
Help the people you claim you tried to shed a light on. Start by acknowledging you were wrong publicly. See Evenflo Feeding, Inc. as an example on how to apologize and mean it. It's up to you to change those lagging black breastfeeding numbers!
