Ask Marriott Hotels: Commit to a 100% Cage-Free Egg Policy

Ask Marriott Hotels: Commit to a 100% Cage-Free Egg Policy

The Issue

Check out the updates below for the latest news on Marriott's progress on animal welfare!

Marriott Hotels has not yet committed to a cage-free egg policy, even though their head corporate chef mentioned plans to go cage-free in 2009.

In the United States, millions of hens are currently kept in battery cages, cages so small they do not have room to spread their wings. Cage-free hens are able to walk around, and they have two to three times the amount of space as those kept in cages. Cage-free facilities not only improve the lives of hens, but also reduce public health risks. Cage-free facilities have significantly lower rates of salmonella than cage facilities do.

Some of Marriott's competitors, such as Hyatt Hotels and Omni Hotels, have already gone cage-free, for animal welfare and public health reasons.
