The Issue

For years, Shoppers served as a reliable, affordable grocery store uniquely meeting the needs of College Park, Beltsville, Laurel, and surrounding communities. Its presence was integral, not just for the convenience it offered but also as a hub for the community. Shoppers provided a shared shopping space accommodating the varying schedules of the workforce and students from the University of Maryland by remaining open comfortably after business hours. Importantly, it was also a source of employment for many community members.

Since Shoppers closed its doors, there has been a notable void in our community. The commercial space it once occupied remains empty, and the absence of an accessible, late-night grocery vendor has been felt profoundly by residents who struggle to fit grocery shopping within their busy schedules. Having a grocery store that stays open until 11 PM is not merely a matter of convenience but a necessity for many, including late-working individuals and busy families.

This petition urges our local government officials to prioritize filling this vacant space with a grocery vendor that operates late into the evening. By doing so, they would address a significant community need, revitalize local commerce, and provide essential jobs that support our local economy. Let's put our voices together to advocate for a store that reflects and serves the values and necessities of our community.

If you believe in this cause and want to see our community thrive, please sign this petition. Together, we can make a difference and bring back convenience and support to our vibrant neighborhoods.
