The Issue

Trump's recent public and repeated racists positions in his 2015 presidential bid on Mexico and Latin people as a whole are not to be tolerated in a city built on diversity and inclusion.  The business and political community of his own home state of NY have rallied to break business ties and associations with Trump and his subsidiaries.  As the capital of the nation and the burgeoning mecca of business doesn't the DC Council have a legislative and moral responsibility to promote shining examples of the business culture into our city and not a publicly open racist and bigot?

The Trump Hotel International took over development of the historic Old Post Office Pavilion in 2014.  The Trump Group was granted a 60 year lease and began construction in 2014 and is currently operating at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest , Washington, DC , 20004 or with plans to open in 2016 to the public.

Allowing Trump Hotel International to continue to operate under the "TRUMP" name and ownership will be a monument to bigotry steps from the White House.  We cannot allow such operators in a city whose business culture inspires diversity and cultural awareness and celebration.

Members of this petition respectfully demand that the DC Council revoke the 60 year lease to the Trump Group and prevent an openly bigoted organization from operating in this city.

As a 42 year old Washington native and alumnus of Sidwell Friends School, where Chelsea Clinton and now the Obama daughters are being taught social responsibility and setting their moral compass,  I could not sit idly by and allow a city I have seen grow into a cosmopolitan and cultural mecca through the years reverse its progress.  The rest of the nation and abroad are taking immediate action against this business and its practices. I urge the DC Council to do the same.

I urge the denizens of DC and elsewhere to do the same and sign this petition.  Send a message to the DC Council that action must be taken now to preserve a business culture of inclusion and tolerance.
