Ask Congress to Support Credit Card Reform
Ask Congress to Support Credit Card Reform Good news! Credit card reform legislation was approved by two Congressional Committees. But there's a problem with the legislation as currently written - it won't go into effect for at least nine months after passage. (Read more about the bills here.) Tell Congress that nine months is too long to wait - we need reforms now!
I am writing to ask that you support a strong version of H.R. 627, the Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights. This bill was passed by the House Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee on April 2, and includes important provisions for protecting consumers. The main problem is that H.R. 627 won't be implemented quickly enough! Please support this bill and amend it so that it goes into effect within three months of passage. We need protection from predatory credit card practices NOW, not one year from now or in mid-2010! Predatory credit card practices drain hard-earned money from people like me who cannot afford these tricks and traps any longer. Thank you for your attention.
