Ask Cartoon Network to revive The Powerpuff Girls (2016) for two more seasons
The Issue
The 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls will be brought back by Cartoon Network Studios on August 4, 2023 and renew it for two more seasons (Seasons 4 and 5), making this reboot conclude after five seasons. All cringe, toilet humor, and outdated meme references, previously used in Seasons 1-3 of this reboot, will be permanently removed from the series (meaning no more outdated memes and cringe stuff from Season 4 onward). Just like Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the 2017 reboot of DuckTales, and Season 5 of the 2016 Ben 10 reboot, it will have an action-packed tone, dark elements, clever writing, and creativity of the original, four things that the first three seasons lacked. It will also have the charm of the original, as it will have more crime-fighting and less slice-of-life scenes. It will no longer try to be hip; instead it will be more serious, and Seasons 4 and 5 will feel like an actual reboot that’s done right.
Amanda Leighton, Kristen Li, and Natalie Palamides will improve on their voice acting on Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. The trio in Seasons 4 and 5 of the reboot will be added up to four, with Blisstina being the newest member of the group.
Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup will also improve on their singing during these seasons. The fourth season will be from 2023-2024, and the fifth and final season will be in 2024.
Starting with these seasons, the characters from the original series will redeem themselves and revert to their original selves:
- Blossom’s 2016 counterpart will revert from an over-reactive, nagging, and exaggerating OCD neurotic perfectionist into a leader and the smart girl of the group, and also the most rational, meaning it's her plans that contribute to victory, much like her 1998 counterpart.
- Bubbles’ 2016 counterpart will revert from a childish, crybaby, whiny, and stereotypically girly "girl" into a cute girly girl of the group who is the most optimistic and shy, meaning it's her openness to friendship that sometimes allows the girls to gain an upper hand by not fighting without a reason, much like her 1998 counterpart.
- Buttercup’s 2016 counterpart will revert from a tomboyish clichéd bully into a sporty, no-nonsense tomboy who is always eager for a good fight, making her the key for overpowering enemies that can only be taken head on, much like her 1998 counterpart.
- Professor Utonium's 2016 counterpart will revert back to his characterization that he had in the classic 1998 series after he was flanderized into an unfunny idiotic dad trope in the first three seasons of the 2016 reboot.
- Mojo Jojo’s 2016 counterpart will revert back to his characterization that he had in the classic 1998 series and will utilize his famous language and speech patterns again, after he was flanderized into a stereotypical villainous elitist who used to speak in the third person in the first three seasons of the 2016 reboot.
- The Mayor of Townsville's 2016 counterpart will revert back to his characterization that he had in the classic 1998 series after he was flanderized into an unfunny comic relief in the first three seasons of the 2016 reboot.
- Princess Morbucks’ 2016 counterpart will revert back to her characterization that she had in the classic 1998 series, after she was flanderized into a stereotypical famous girl in the first three seasons of the 2016 reboot.
Blisstina Utonium’s characterization will be heavily improved, going from a teenage girl stereotype into a kind and supportive teenage sister to the group who always participates in fighting crime with her sisters.
Various characters from the 2016 reboot, such as Jared Shapiro, Manboy, Bianca Bikini, Packrat, Gnat, Silico, Donny, Pug-Faced Paulie, Duplikate, Erika the Red, and Supna Nehru, will also have their characterizations heavily improved.
Seasons 4 and 5 will be much darker than the original series, but not too dark to the point where it’s super edgy. As they say, the tone knows when to have its darker moments and when to have its lighter moments. Nothing here is too inconsistent tone-wise.
While the 2016 reboot will be more serious in Seasons 4 and 5, it will also have a few funny moments here and there within them to not make these seasons too serious, and these jokes will be done better than the previous three seasons.
One of the other additions to this reboot is that Blisstina will have her own bedroom, with a front doorway that leads straight to the Girls’ bedroom. The soundtrack album for the entire reboot will be available on WaterTower Music. Seasons 4 and 5 will also mark the return of Sedusa and Ms. Bellum, with Jennifer Hale and Jennifer Martin reprising their roles respectively. The Powerpuff Hotline, first seen in the episode “Puffdora’s Box”, will also return in Seasons 4 and 5, and will be in tandem with its smartphone counterpart. The narrator and the iconic ending hearts will also be used in every episode of Seasons 4 and 5. The narrator also will open every episode of Seasons 4 and 5 with the phrase: “The City of Townsville…” As a result of being renewed for two more seasons, the 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls will be airing on the Cartoon Network channel again.
The first episode of Season 4 will focus on Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Professor Utonium giving Bliss a new room, after she quit the UPB to spend time with her family, while the second episode focuses on Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Bliss attending space camp for two weeks, and Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup explain to Bliss the events of Home, Sweet Homesick, while the four try the park attractions and carnival rides, and the third episode features Ms. Bellum returning to Townsville after she cut her vacation days short due to missing him.
Danny Cooksey, Greg Cipes, and James Arnold Taylor will voice Brick, Boomer, and Butch respectively in Seasons 4 and 5 and The Powerpuff Girls: The Movie: Generations. Adam McArthur, who is known for voicing Marco Diaz from Star vs. the Forces of Evil, will voice Blake, the fourth Rowdyruff Boy. These seasons will be in tandem with the live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls on The CW, and the 1998 Powerpuff Girls revival by Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.
Starting with Season 4, Bliss will have her very own 2016 pajamas, which is the same as the pajamas that the 2016 Girls (her sisters) are wearing for sleepwear. She will also have her own swimsuit.
Starting with Season 4, the intro and end credits will be updated to include Blisstina Utonium (with Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup still intact), with “Who's Got the Power?” by Tacocat and “The Powerpuff Girls” by Tristan Sedillo and Hannah Watanabe-Rocco still being used.
As a result of Seasons 4 and 5, much like Season 5 of the 2016 reboot of Ben 10, the animation will be brilliant and a MASSIVE step-up from the previous three seasons, as there will also be no animation errors in these seasons. Seasons 4 and 5 will be much more faithful to the original source material than the last three seasons. Blossom will still have a crush on Jared, Bubbles will still be a computer geek, and Buttercup will still be good at math. Pokey Oaks Kindergarten will be fixed and reopen from Season 4 onward. Mitch Mitchelson will also return in the 2016 reboot, with Tom Kenny reprising his role. There will also be several tear-jerking and heartwarming moments. Despite the character designs being the same, the themes of Seasons 4 and 5 will be taken much more seriously thanks to better storytelling and more time to flesh them out properly. There will also be no continuity errors. The script-writing and writing will also become massive improvements. In addition, Julia Vickerman will not be involved with Seasons 4 and 5.
Craig McCracken will also join the 2016 collaborators (while also working on the 1998 Powerpuff Girls revival and the Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends reboot), and will have more involvement in the series.
