Ask Board of Education for JRMS playground funds

Ask Board of Education for JRMS playground funds
The Issue
Middle school recess should be a time for our children to relax, play, and build social skills. However, the students of John Read Middle School in Redding, CT, find themselves without a dedicated space to engage in physical activity or socialize freely. It's a concern shared by many parents in our community, because we want our children to have something constructive to do during their break—it’s not just about keeping them busy; it's about enhancing their school experience.
Research has continuously shown that children who have opportunities for physical activity during school hours perform better academically and exhibit improved behavior. A study published in the Journal of School Health found that students with access to playgrounds are more focused and better prepared to learn after recess. Despite being aware of these benefits, our middle school currently lacks the basic infrastructure to support such activities, impacting the overall development of our kids.
We acknowledge the Board of Education's numerous commitments and understand budget constraints are a typical challenge. However, investing in a playground at John Read Middle School is an investment in our children's futures. It doesn't just provide a space for fun, but it also fosters physical health, encourages teamwork, and alleviates stress—all key components of a conducive learning environment.
We propose this solution as a community-driven initiative. We can explore avenues such as local fundraising events, partnership with local businesses, and seeking grants dedicated to educational enhancements to supplement the budget. By working together, we can ensure that our children are not shortchanged during their formative years.
Join us in this mission to enhance our children's educational environment. Let's urge the Easton-Redding Board of Education to allocate funds in the upcoming budget for a much-needed playground at John Read Middle School. Please sign this petition and help us make a lasting impact on our community's children.
