Ask BCISD to reinstate Local Homestead Exemption LOHE

The Issue

BCISD School Board voted to remove the Local Option Homestead Exemption in 2015 while all the other surrounding  districts opted to keep theirs.

The optional homestead exemption (Tax Code, sec. 11.13(n)) allows a school district to exempt up to 20 percent of the value of a residential homestead from school property taxes. The LOHE is a tax saving device for property owners.

We should demand the School Board listen to the community and consider reinstating the LOHE. The community voted YES for a new middle school and new CTE building. We were forced to vote on the recent 2022 #BCISD school bond. It’s fair and reasonable for the School Board to be forced to hear us citizens on this LOHE issue.
