Ashmole Academy - keep your gates open to local children

The Issue

Ashmole Academy is consulting on proposed changes to its admissions policy from 2027: https://www.ashmoleacademy.org/page/?title=Consultations&pid=306

  1. It wants to create a second feeder school, Osidge Primary.
  2. Under proposals, children at Osidge, living within 1 mile of Ashmole Academy, will be given priority access.
  3. The typical catchment distance for Ashmole Academy is approx. 0.5 miles.
  4. If this goes ahead, Osidge children living beyond the typical Ashmole catchment area, will leapfrog those living closer to the school and deny local children a place.

These proposals are unfair and unreasonable as per the School Admissions Code 2021. They will deny children the chance to attend their local secondary school for no other reason than Ashmole Trust wanting to use feeder status to drive up Osidge Primary's numbers.

Local children will be shut out of their closest secondary just because they do not attend a Trust feeder school. This will impact children attending primary schools across both Barnet and Enfield, including Brunswick Park, De Bohun, Monkfrith, St Andrew's, St Monica's, Walker and West Grove.

This proposed feeder status is being parachuted in to apply from 2027, i.e. when the current Year 5 start secondary school, changing the goal posts on rules, years after those families chose a primary school and denying parents and carers the ability to make informed choices for their children's education.

If these proposals go ahead they will materially impact the education landscape in Southgate and the surrounding area, and shut off established pathways from local schools to Ashmole Academy.

If you agree that these proposals are unfair and wrong, sign here and send in your objections to consultation@ashmoleacademy.org by 9am, Tuesday 16 December 2025.
