Attn: DMUSD Leadership and DMUSD School Board Members 

We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and members of the Ashley Falls school community, call for the immediate removal of Principal Karly Pecorella due to a sustained pattern of unprofessional conduct, failure to ensure student safety, and lack of meaningful engagement with the community she serves.

 

Over the past four years, numerous complaints and concerns have been raised by parents, guardians, and staff to school board members, district leadership, and Human Resources. These concerns consistently center on Ms. Pecorella’s professionalism, leadership, and treatment of those who advocate for students. Families report dismissive and, at times, retaliatory behavior—creating a climate of fear and eroding trust. Some parents have even requested that their children not interact directly with her, underscoring the seriousness of these concerns.

 

Despite the volume and consistency of these reports, there has been little visible accountability. Ms. Pecorella should have been actively and thoroughly investigated for incompetence in her role over the past several years. Instead, the lack of action has led families to lose faith in the district’s willingness and ability to do what is right for students.

 

Even more concerning are repeated failures to address and communicate serious student safety issues. Incidents involving bullying, campus violence, and even a reported sighting of a sexual predator have occurred without timely or transparent communication to families or adequate steps to protect students. These lapses are unacceptable and undermine both safety and trust.

 

Ms. Pecorella has also demonstrated limited connection to the school community. She often attends events only when district officials or board members are expected, leaves early, and does not contribute to the collaborative effort required to build a strong school culture. Responses to concerns are frequently delayed by months, reflecting a lack of urgency and accountability.

 

Additionally, effective elementary leadership requires energy, visibility, and a willingness to engage with students in meaningful ways. However, Ms. Pecorella has expressed reluctance to participate in activities that might make her “look silly,” even when supporting community initiatives such as DMSEF. This suggests a focus on appearances over student experience and community connection.

 

Ashley Falls is a highly engaged community that values inclusivity, connection, and student success. Our children deserve a principal who prioritizes safety, communicates openly, engages authentically, embraces diversity and shows up fully for the school.

 

We call on the Del Mar Union School District to take immediate action to remove Karly Pecorella and appoint a leader who will restore trust, ensure student safety, and actively partner with families and staff.
