In November 2015, Kate Murray and Anthony Santino announced that the Town Of Hempstead made a significant impact on reducing the amount of feral cats reproducing through the Town's TNR program. 

At the January 12th  board meeting, it was discussed that the town was cutting back on it's TNR program.  Citizens who participate in the program as trappers said that the wait for spaying and neutering cats is months long and that this would severely set back all of the progress that the Town has made.

If anything, the Town needs to find other ways to save costs and increase the TNR program even if it means contracting a part-time veterinarian to pick up the slack.  If the Town cuts back on TNR, all of the progress that has been made would be wasted.  YOUR TAX DOLLARS WOULD HAVE BEEN WASTED.

Cats can start reproducing as early as 4 months of age and go into heat every 14-21 days.  The average amount of kittens per litter is 5.  Do the math......3 female kittens can produce 15 cats within an 8 week time period.

The Town can reach out to veterinary schools like Cornell which has a job board. Hiring a recent medical school graduate to help with the TNR program would be less of an expense than hiring a veterinarian who is already in practice.
