My name is LaRon and I'm writing this petition on behalf of my cousin, Jermyn Vann Sr., aka "Bud", and his 16 year old son, Jermyn Vann Jr., aka "Junior." 
Jermyn Jr, is Cherokee by blood and Bud is a Cherokee Freedmen. 
Both Bud and Junior were arrested on September 5th, 2022 and Bud is being held in the Tahlequah jail with a $250,000 bond and Junior is being held without bond at a horrible prison in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. 
On September 5th, they both stepped into a fight already in progress and were attempting to help the victim of this fight (an older white male named Arty, the grandfather of Junior's girlfriend, Kasey). Arty was outnumbered 12 to 1. The same young men who were beating this older man had gone to my cousin, Bud's house and threatened Bud's wife and their son, Junior. 

Here are the facts in this case: 

• 5-6 young men go to Junior's home and threaten violence. They brandish firearms, so Junior's mom grabs her own gun. The boys take off.
• Junior's girlfriend, Kasey calls her grandfather, Arty, a white male. Arty finds the group of boys down the street and confronts them. They attack Arty and start beating him on the street.
• "Bud" and junior pull up to the fight in Bud's truck. Bud sees Arty being beaten and attempts to help him. Kasey also runs in to help her grandfather.
• The growing group of young men (now 10-12) turn on Bud and start hitting him in the head with "objects." One of them also grabs Kasey from behind and puts her in a chokehold while the others continue to beat Arty and Bud. Someone in the group yells to "grab a knife & Gun" to kill Bud.
• Junior, seeing his father and Arty being beaten and his girlfriend being choked, grabs his father's gun from their truck and shoots in self-defense, killing one of the attackers
• Bud and Junior are the ONLY people arrested! Bud is being held on 250k bond and Junior being held without bond
• Yet ALL of the young men (white) who STARTED this violence REMAIN FREE...
• Bud (Black Cherokee Freedmen) was charged with "unlawful intent to carry" even though he's licensed to carry in the state of Oklahoma. They are also trying to charge Junior (Native) as an adult. 
  Although Junior did tragically take someone's life that day, it was in self-defense. He is not a violent person, and only pulled that trigger out of desperation to save his father, his girlfriend and his girlfriend's grandfather, and himself, all who were being viciously beaten. 

We're desperately seeking the help of everyone since our tribe Freedmen (Cherokee) has not done anything to assist my family.
