Demand the Truth Behind the Assassination of Dr. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi

The Martyrdom of a Visionary

On the early morning of February 3, 2026, a dark shadow fell over Libya. Dr. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the man who carried the hopes of millions for a unified and sovereign nation, was assassinated at his residence in Zintan. This was not a random act of street violence; it was a sophisticated, high-level political execution.

A group of masked gunmen breached a perimeter that had been his sanctuary for 15 years. They did not come to kidnap; they came to silence a movement. While “official” authorities offer empty condolences, the Libyan people know the truth: Saif al-Islam was murdered because he was the only leader who could bridge the divide between Libya’s past and its future.

A Legacy of Loyalty: Why He Stayed

Between 2018 and 2019, Dr. Saif al-Islam was asked multiple times why he did not seek refuge abroad or elsewhere in Libya. His answer was a testament to his character: he refused to leave Zintan.

He believed that departing would be a sign of disrespect to the people who had hosted and protected him through Libya’s darkest years. Because he had remained safe there for over a decade, he viewed staying as a matter of honor and mutual loyalty.

The “Peacemaker”: Fixing What the government Broke

While various “interim” governments fought for control of oil and bank accounts, Dr. Saif al-Islam was doing the heavy work of national healing:

1. The Architect of Tribal Reconciliation

Mediating the Unresolvable: He spent his years in Zintan mediating blood feuds and land disputes across the Fezzan and central Libya.

The Voice of the South: He restored dialogue between communities abandoned by the state, acting as a supreme arbitrator where formal courts failed to even show up.

Healing the Social Fabric: He used his family’s historical legacy not to rule, but to reconcile—fixing the tribal rifts that post-2011 militias actively encouraged to keep the country weak.

2. A Career of Reform and Sovereignty

From the “Libya Tomorrow” project to his candidacy, his career was defined by Libyan solutions for Libyan problems. He was a bridge to the international community who never sacrificed Libyan dignity.

The Anatomy of a Betrayal

The circumstances of his death are an indictment of the current political order:

100 days have passed, and the killers have not been arrested. There are allegations that judicial and security authorities have failed to act on multiple requests and warrants. We refuse to accept the silence while the perpetrators remain free.

It is also alleged that the Attorney General has not responded to 14 legal memoranda submitted by the lawyer Khaled Al-Zaidi, and that the Minister of Interior has not taken action against suspects reportedly due to tribal affiliations. Reports further suggest that the individuals involved are being protected by their tribal networks

Our Unwavering Demands

We demand accountability for the 100 days of silence:

Arrest the Executioners Now: We demand the immediate arrest of those responsible for the assassination. No political or tribal protection can justify impunity for cold-blooded killing.

Expose the Betrayal in Zintan: We demand a full, public disclosure of the command chain connected to the events of February 3.

International Forensic Oversight: We call for an independent, international forensic team to examine the crime scene, ensuring that the evidence is not tampered with by domestic actors.

A Halt to Political Recognition: We call on the international community to withhold recognition from any authority found to be sheltering or facilitating the escape of those responsible.

A Call for Justice

Sign this petition to demand truth, accountability, and justice. We will not be silent until those responsible are held accountable before the Libyan people.
