Stop Animal Neglect! Protect our animals during extreme weather conditions!

The Issue

Results are confirmed, Arkansas has been ranked in the lowest tier for the "2021 U.S. State Animal Protection Law". Why is this the case? We HAVE to do better!

Join me in the first step toward change! Be a voice for our animals facing neglect and abuse!

Step #1: Amend Arkansas State Code on what is considered appropriate outdoor housing for our domestic animals.

Step #2: Amend Arkansas State Code and implement temperature boundaries in which it is too hot or too cold for a domestic animal to be housed outdoors. A doghouse in below-freezing temperatures is not adequate!

Step #3: Enforce harsher penalties against animal neglect and animal abuse violations.

It's a common belief that dogs and cats are more resistant than people to cold weather because of their fur, but it's untrue. Like people, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia and should be kept inside. Longer-haired and thick-coated dog breeds, such as huskies and other dogs bred for colder climates, are more tolerant of cold weather; but no pet should be left outside for long periods in below-freezing weather!

In Arkansas, it is currently acceptable for domestic animals to be kept outdoors in extreme weather conditions as long as they're provided "adequate shelter" and "a sufficient quantity of wholesome food and water." This terminology is extremely vague and there are no temperature limits in which an owner must bring their animal inside.  Change has to start somewhere and I hope I can be the voice of our community here in the State of Arkansas!!
