Activities and developments Argent At the meeting 26 October we left them a note outlining our response to their reasons closing the pond, and our proposals to give it a future, funding, promoting and allowing wider access in combination with the park. Download it here http://twitdoc.com/6SX5. They promised to pass it on to partners. We hoped that they would read and consider further and get back to us. We wrote to Robert Evans, partner with responsibility for this development, following up from 26 October and replying to the letter signed by him 19 October. Download our letter here http://twitdoc.com/6SX4. Argent have finally replied, http://twitdoc.com/6T6C, to say they are planning to continue with the process of removing the pond. We are still hoping for an imaginative response to public opinion and the positive community-backed proposals that will allow the investment in the pond to continue to be a fantastic resource at the heart of the Kings Cross development. Camden Council We’ve now met Camden councillors for the ward in which the pond sits, St Pancras and Somers Town, twice (on 25 and 31 October), and they’ve been very supportive and encouraging, with several ideas. We are now applying to send a deputation to the full Camden Council meeting on 21 November. We will be asking them to back our call to Argent to hold off on removing the pond to allow us to work up our proposals for a viable future for the pond – combined with the park – at the green heart of the development. Other avenues We are investigating whether there are any legal avenues we can follow. We have written to the Mayor of London. We have been offered support by CPRE, and have sent them a briefing note and asked them to write to Argent, Camden and the Mayor of London. Community Residents of the King’s Cross development have been working hard to build a community, with the King’s Cross pond forming one of the important locations for community activity. In only three years they have voluntarily done an impressive list of activities, which you can download here http://twitdoc.com/6SX3, with no input from Argent. This shows that the community could form a key nucleus for a future for the pond. Comments from supporters One of the campaign group has done an analysis and compilation of comments made by people signing the petition, which makes very inspiring reading. Download it here http://twitdoc.com/6T36. Ideas from supporters Quite a few supporters have been emailing and using social media to make suggestions on how the pond can have a future. We welcome your input, via Twitter @savekxpond / https://twitter.com/savekxpond or email savekxpondcampaign@gmail.com. And finally … The new art installation – to follow Kings Cross Pond – is unveiled. A fitting substitute? https://www.kingscross.co.uk/no-700-reflectors
