Thank you so much for all the support – a petition of 5000+ is really impressive after only a few weeks. We delivered it to the Argent offices, to the project director, yesterday, on the day that, sadly, the pond was closed to the public. Many people came along to the pond in the last few days and hours to enjoy refreshing swims in the mild autumn sunshine. We also gave a copy of the petition to Fusion, who have done a great job running the pond and making everyone welcome and safe. Argent / The King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership, the owner and developer of King’s Cross, had already taken the decision to close the Pond on 26 October 2016, ahead of the expiry of its temporary planning permission on 31 January 2017. We know that a petition cannot instantly reverse a decision that has been made. But the enormous number of signatures and many of the comments show how strong and wide the support for a future for the Pond is. We hope that KCCLP will reflect on this. We had a meeting on 26 October with Argent’s project director (representing KCCLP), and left him with a note with all our proposals and ideas, which we had the opportunity to outline to them in the meeting. We will also be writing in response to a letter from one of the partners of Argent, and hope to hear back from them soon once they have had a chance to consider. At the meeting the project director outlined the planning, commissioning and construction history of developing the Pond, and the reasons for deciding to close it now. We will make public our correspondence with Argent once we’ve had a chance to consider and respond to the points made, particularly on some factors we hadn’t previously heard about. We have also had discussions with local Camden councillors who are concerned about losing the pond and all the benefits it brings to residents and businesses in the area, and we will be talking to them again early next week. We want to think about the best way to harness all the love everyone has shown for the pond and all the energy in supporting a future for it so far. Although we handed the petition in, we can still keep it online and contact you with updates. And we will post news and pictures to our Twitter account: https://twitter.com/savekxpond / @savekxpond. Please do get in touch with us with any ideas or proposals that you have to support the campaign: savekxpondcampaign@gmail.com.
