Are We Doing Enough to Protect Animals? Protect Animals: A Necessary Step for a Brighter F
The Issue
The Philippines slaughters around 11.1% land-based animals per person per year, compared to the global average of 10.1 %. Most of them were abused and slaughtered. In this cruel society today, people might lack patience and tend to get annoyed by the presence of an animal. Therefore, they behave recklessly and immediately kill or abandon them in a place where they couldn't survive. But in this case slaughtering of dogs, cats, and other animals is against the Republic Act 8485 or what we call Animal Welfare Act of 1998.
These animals suffer during the slaughter process, facing cruel treatment before and during their deaths. These animals often face neglect and harsh treatment before they are killed. At least one animal is abused every 60 seconds. Lack of food, water and shelter, too tight collar, matting, open sores, mange and signs of starvation are clear signs that an animal is being neglected. This is very unfair because they are loving pets that bring joy to our lives.
Kittens and newborn puppies are thrown into rivers because many of their owners don’t want them or see them as excess animals. Some are placed in trash bags or sacks, while others are physically abused before being thrown. Many of these animals could have found loving homes if only their owners had chosen to seek help or educate themselves about responsible pet ownership.
To prevent animal cruelty towards cats and dogs, it's essential to promote education about responsible pet ownership, advocate for stricter laws and penalties, support animal welfare organizations, and encourage community involvement in reporting abuse. Spaying and neutering pets can also help reduce overpopulation and neglect. In addition to education and advocacy, providing resources for pet care and support can help owners in need.
As we reiterate our stance on this fight against animal cruelty, let us not forget that every little movement counts. Whether it's volunteering at a local shelter, spreading awareness through social media, or deciding to adopt instead of shopping for pets, our combined efforts can lead to a massive exchange. The time to act is now, let’s stand for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Despite the heartbreaking reality of animal cruelty countless individuals and organizations are working tirelessly to protect and advocate for animals. By raising awareness, supporting shelters and rescue groups, and making informed choices, we can collectively contribute to a world where all animals are treated with kindness. By fostering a culture of compassion and responsibility, we can ensure that future generations inherit a world where animals are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
Together, we can be a voice for the voiceless and create a lasting effect in the lives of countless animals.
