Only a week away from election day, we have an excellent opportunity to focus the minds of potential MLAs on what is at stake for our wild, meandering coastal walk. If you can possibly find time to email a few lines to the candidates, it would send a powerful reminder that the public want their say on this much-loved area of coastline.  And although the planning application will ultimately be approved or refused by councillors, most vote according to the party line, so those who are elected to Stormont have great influence – and the future of the coastal path in their hands.

You might want to ask for their support in preserving the path’s wild character while backing our call for investment to be put into cycling infrastructure inland, closer to homes and schools. You may want to share your own experience of the path, conveying what you value about this natural asset. Some candidates have already stated support for our position (Dunne, Easton, McKimm and Woods) but writing to them all will underline that this is a cause with widespread support.
