Parents just received the news that St. James Preschool in Redondo Beach, CA is CLOSING at the end of the school year.

Why?  

• In 2019 Monsignor Michael Meyers of St. James Catholic Church purchased a large real estate property.  The property was the former South Bay Korean Church, located south of St James.  This purchase was an estimated 9 MILLION dollars.
• In 2020, the financial strain of Covid, combined with the expenses of the new property, heavily impacted the Church.
• End of 2021, Msgr. Meyer's decided he was going to sell the Churches east lot to combat the financial losses from his real estate purchase to a developer.  The east lot he is trying to sell includes the preschool, parish offices, religious education buildings and parish parking,
• Msgr. Meyer's also decided to permanently CLOSE St. James Preschool.  Msgr. Meyer's declined to address the preschool staff about the school's closing.
• Msgr. Meyer's decision to sell the churches east lot negatively impacts a SUBSTANTIAL amount of families.
• Msgr. Meyer’s mismanagement of church assets is now resting on the shoulders of the young families and next generation of the church.

St. James Preschool has been the cornerstone of the parish for 30 YEARS.

The preschool has a stellar reputation in the South Bay.  Wendy Bell (the director) and all the teachers have gone above and beyond to keep the school operating and thriving throughout the Covid pandemic. 

We can NOT let the poor financial decisions of Monsignor Michael Meyers cause our St. James community to lose its preschool.  We need to bring this petition to the attention of the St. James parishioners and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Let's help our AMAZING teachers continue to teach.  They need us more than ever to band together and HELP SAVE ST JAMES PRESCHOOL!

How can you help?  

• Pause your automatic donations to St. James Catholic Church UNTIL action is taken.
• Msgr. Meyer is set to make the announcement about the preschool closing on Sunday, January 30th at the 10am Mass.  Let our presence be known that we do not agree! Grab a white t-shirt and write "Help Save St. James Preschool!" and wear it at the Mass.  These shirts will represent to the Msgr. that we are aware and do NOT agree with his decision to close the Preschool.
• Sign this petition and pass it onto family and friends.  The more signatures the Archdiocese sees, the more likely we can save our school!
