Arcata was the center of slaveholding and genocide in Humboldt County. To wage genocide, Arcatans passed a .5% property tax in 1858 to fund a genocidal militia that enslaved surviving children, which camped on Janes Farm and then Camp Curtis.  We, the undersigned, ask the Arcata City Council to remove the name places that honor those that enslaved and waged genocide on all the tribes of Humboldt County, including:

1. Janes Road and Janes Creek, which honor the farmer who hosted and supported Arcata's volunteer genocidal militia.

2. LK Wood Boulevard, which honors a man who managed enslaved Americans for his father in Kentucky before immigrating to Arcata, where he vocally supported genocide as the highest elected official in Humboldt, the County Clerk. 

3. Curtis Avenue, and replace the plaque that honors the "1st Battalion California Volunteer Mountaineers with one that grieves for the genocide.

Additionally, in 1863 William Phillips, of Arcata's Phillips House Museum kept two enslaved Indian children, 9 year old "Rachael" and 18 year old "Dick", and their forgotten living quarters should be the focus of the new history told there.
