Save the Arch!

Save the Arch!
The Issue
Due to structural instability, the Cheltenham Township Historical Commission has approved Arcadia University's plan to deconstruct and replace the Easton Road Arch. The cost of full-scale restoration would be approximately $300,000. While we understand the financial situation which the University is facing, we believe that the restoration should be done properly.
We ask that as much of the original material as possible should be stored and reused in the restoration, in order to preserve the integrity and historical significance of the structure. The Blankley Hall "Moon Gate," better known as the Easton Arch, has been a part of Arcadia's grounds since the construction of the Harrison Estate in the 1890's, and is one of the first things prospective students see when visiting campus. It also serves as a way to connect Arcadia to the surrounding Glenside Community, as it has become a local landmark.
The Arcadia Community deserves to be aware of the University's plans. We ask that the University publicly and officially commit to the proper preservation and restoration of the Easton Road Arch.
To save this important location (which is not specifically protected under the National Historic Landmark Registry), we feel that students and faculty should be aware of this situation. Please take five minutes from your day to sign this petition, which will be presented to the University as a way of proving to them that we care about the historical integrity of our campus!
Thank you!
