Change the way Food Swipes Work at The University of Akron #OurSwipes

The Issue

The University of Akron's food is managed by Aramark. We, the students, do not like the way that the meal swipe program operates. Currently, there are 4 blocks in which we can use one swipe per block. The problem is that this does not fit within a majority of student's schedules and we are not able to utilize these swipes, and if these do not get used that is money we are wasting. As an example I am in class from 7:15 am to 2:30 pm every Tuesday and Thursday, due to this I cannot use my breakfast swipe on these days.

Our proposed change would be to allow students to use 4 or 5 swipes anytime of the day. This would benefit students whose schedules don't align with the current food plans for two main reasons. First, it would allow students to utilize all the swipes that they have already purchased even if they cannot make it to one of the meal times. Second, it would offer a way for students with busy schedules to plan ahead and purchase two meals. This overall would result in happier students that are able to eat healthier because they will not need to rush meals. Again with my example I would be able to use my fourth swipe a day to purchase breakfast for myself that I can save for the next morning. We are not the only ones backing this idea, by talking to students they all feel the same way, and overall there is no negative feedback we have received.
