The Issue

The Fall semester of 2020 has been stressful to say the least, and has forced us as students to make many accommodations to properly adjust to our new learning environment. The hours of credit work are much more demanding online as assignments such as lectures and quizzes have been added to the course workload. Overall there has been a greater demand for students to complete work in order to indicate their "participation" that other wise would have been assessed during class time. This has created an entirely new and packed schedule for most students that is draining both physically and mentally.

With the increasing amount of school work added this semester, we, as students have to spend time more time on our computers. The physical exhaustion that accompanies these longs hours of screen time has proven to be detrimental. The increased screen time and workload has also left little time to attend to one's physical activity and mental rest. We have come to associate our bedrooms with a place of academic rigor rather than a place of rest. It is destructive to our mental health and deserves to be acknowledge when considering ones grades and overall performance.

We should be allowed to choose a pass/fail grade for our classes as was done with the Spring semester. Although this semester started online, the challenges that come with implementing our academics into our home lives have not been completely overcome and the option to chose a pass/fail grade should be given to APU students this semester.
