April 1st: DEFUND ICE

The Issue

Join our fight against ICE by being part of a nationwide economic blackout: where citizens and refugees stand together screaming that we will not allow the government to terrorize us into silence.

ICE isn’t just targeting immigrants, they're targeting advocates and allies who dare to speak out against their aggressive actions. It's time for us to stand up and halt this rampage. As a democracy, our voices hold power, and it's crucial we exercise our rights to protect our brothers and sisters, regardless of borders.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has long been criticized for its harsh enforcement policies and inhumane treatment of immigrants. With reports of family separations, inadequate detention conditions, and racial and ethnic profiling, ICE’s practices have sown fear and distrust in communities across the nation. In 2020, ICE ran on a budget exceeding $8 billion, funds that are only possible because of the workers of America: with 19% to 20% of the U.S. workforce, representing over 30 million workers, being immigrants. (As of 2024–2025 via the Bureau of Labor Statistics)

These funds could be put to better use by supporting humane, fair, and effective immigration services. Redirecting resources to community-based support programs, asylum application processing, and legal assistance for migrants can create a system that honors our country’s values of fairness and compassion. For example, by increasing funding for the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), there can be a marked improvement in legal migration pathways and refugee support.

ICE and ICE supporters claim that by not taxing immigrants, citizen pockets pay the price. The only solution would be to make getting a U.S. citizenship more possible.

Redirecting funds from ICE to these humane services is not only the logical thing to do, but it also leads us towards a more just society. The focus should be on building bridges, not walls — on understanding and resolving the root causes of migration rather than punishing those seeking a better life. The foundation of America was built on giving refuge to settlers, it is time we honor our past by paving a better future.

By signing this petition, we call upon all people of America to participate in an Economic Blackout on April 1st, 2026. For 24-hours consumers protest by refusing to spend money at corporations, refusing to work, and refusing to send their children to school. Our movement aims to disrupt cash flow and pressure officials to make change.

We are the very bones that this country stands on, only when we sit down can we finally stand up.
