The role of the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), is to work with the administration, teachers, students, and parents to implement appropriate measures and ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are integrated throughout every aspect of our community schools and curriculum. In alignment with the SAU-16’s mission and core values, the position will plan and execute new and existing organization-wide DEI initiatives, professional development sessions, policies, and systems to foster inclusivity, diversity, and equity across SAU-16.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work is especially important for schools due to their work with students and families from various backgrounds. It is also extremely important to the health and culture or our schools.

Our students need to feel valued and affirmed. Educators and those whose work impacts students should espouse the values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by exploring and respecting differences inside and outside the classroom. DEI work involves making systemic changes to make the school space more equitable and inclusive for students of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, abilities, and more.
