The Issue

I'm a licensed esthetician, and like many of my colleagues, I've watched the cost of renting a suite steadily rise, putting immense financial pressure on small business owners in the beauty industry. Allowing licensed cosmetologists and estheticians to operate mobile businesses in South Carolina would be a game-changer for many of us. It would offer greater flexibility, reduce overhead costs, and allow us to bring our skills directly to the clients who need them.

In many states across the U.S., cosmetologists and estheticians already have the ability to provide mobile services legally, offering convenience to clients and broadening professional opportunities. This legislative change would not only support beauty professionals but also serve the diverse communities within South Carolina by making beauty services more accessible to all, including the elderly, disabled, or those with time constraints.

Currently, South Carolina laws restrict us from delivering in-home beauty care, limiting our potential to grow our businesses and serve our clients better. With the current economic climate and financial challenges facing small business owners, it's more important than ever for legislation to adapt and support evolving business models.

Around 300,000 people work in the U.S. beauty industry, with a significant proportion hoping to expand their services beyond fixed locations. According to a survey conducted by the Professional Beauty Association, almost 70% of beauty professionals expressed the desire to offer mobile services to meet client needs more effectively. These numbers clearly illustrate the demand for change.

It's time for South Carolina legislators to approve the bill allowing mobile services for licensed cosmetologists and estheticians. By updating the law, we can not only alleviate financial burdens on entrepreneurs but also boost the local economy by creating more job opportunities and satisfying the growing demand for flexible beauty services.

Join me in urging South Carolina legislators to take action and pass this pivotal bill. Let's make mobile cosmetology and esthetics a reality in South Carolina. Please sign this petition to support flexibility and financial freedom for beauty professionals statewide.
