I am a 6-time suicide attempt survivor. There were moments when I was in desperate need of immediate help, but the critical service of a dedicated suicide and crisis lifeline was not available until July 2022. Since its establishment, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline has become a vital resource, offering immediate assistance and support to individuals in mental health crises.

However, despite its importance, many residents and visitors throughout our community remain unaware of this life-saving service. That's why we are urging the City of Lafayette's City Council to approve and support the installation of professionally designed 988 crisis lifeline signs at strategic locations throughout the parish.

These signs would serve as a constant reminder that there is hope and help available 24/7 for those who find themselves in crisis. By increasing the visibility of the 988 Lifeline, we can ensure that more individuals are aware of and have access to this resource when they need it the most.

This initiative doesn't just increase awareness—it's about saving lives. The presence of these signs can help destigmatize mental health discussions and provide a tangible sign of support for our community members who are silently struggling.
