The Issue

In 2023, Paradise in Asbury Park approached the city and inquired if they would be willing to declare May 7th as Drag Queen Visibility Day.  This action was in response to the onslaught of anti-drag and anti-trans laws being proposed throughout the Untied States.  Asbury quickly accepted and on that day we celebrated with a slew of events to bring awareness to the art of drag, raise money and show our support for our brothers and sisters nationwide.

Soon after, the proclamation was swiftly recognized by the governor's office and the state senate of NJ.

Since then we have held various events to commemorate the day.  We have raised money for the Human Rights Campaign, the Trevor Project and this year the Transgender Law Project.

On February 11, 2025, I applied with the National Day Calendar Review Committee to grant Drag Queen Visibility Day national status. I was rejected by the committee on March 11th.  I re-applied on March 14th.

Please sign this petition if you feel that Drag Queen Visibility Day should receive national status and be added to our annual calendar.

By declaring this a national holiday, we not only will be able to showcase our art, but help to erode the notion that drag is dangerous; all the while raising money for organizations that work every day for our basic human rights.
