Approve an 18-Hole Disc Golf Course in the Okaloosa County Patriots Park Project

Approve an 18-Hole Disc Golf Course in the Okaloosa County Patriots Park Project
The Issue
In a release on 21 August 2024, County Commission Chairman Paul Mixon announced that a town hall meeting will be held to gather input from the public on a new county park, which will be known as Patriots Park.
The park, planned for south of Shoal River Drive, will feature more than 100 acres of woods and wetlands along the Shoal River in northern Okaloosa County and will feature native plant and animal species.
“This land gives us the opportunity to create a unique environmental space in north Okaloosa County that will benefit the residents living in the vicinity as well as the wider public and visitors,” said Mixon in the news release. “We want to allow residents in the surrounding community a chance to offer their suggestions and guidance so that we can maximize the potential of this property for future recreational enjoyment.”
The town hall meeting is scheduled for Sept. 3 in the sanctuary of Live Oak Baptist Church, 4565 Live Oak Church Road, Crestview. The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

We are proud members of the Okaloosa County Disc Golf Club, a passionate group of experienced disc golfers, course designers, and course maintainers. We have seen the potential disc golf has to transform communities, and we firmly believe that it's time for our home, Okaloosa County, FL, to reap the similar benefits. We are asking for the inclusion of an 18-hole disc golf course in the upcoming Patriots Park project, creating the first championship-level course open to the public in Okaloosa County.
Disc golf, with its emphasis on community and outdoor activity, aligns perfectly with the goals of the planned park project. Our proposed course would serve the dual purpose of providing an exciting new recreational venue for locals while also attracting disc golf enthusiasts from the wider Northwest Florida region, boosting tourism and local businesses.
We believe the benefits outweigh potential drawbacks, and with our robust crew of experienced disc golfers and course designers on hand to assist, we can ensure that the construction and maintenance of the course will be an efficient and effective process. We are willing and prepared to work with the city and county planning project teams to implement this venture.
The Okaloosa County Disc Golf Club asks you to consider our proposal carefully. This is more than just a sports venue, it is our vision for a more active, united, and vibrant community. Help us make Okaloosa County a landmark for disc golf in Northwest Florida. Sign and support our quest for a greener and sportier Okaloosa County.
