Approval Request: Korean-American Lacrosse Players’ Participation in Heritage Cup 2026

Approval Request: Korean-American Lacrosse Players’ Participation in Heritage Cup 2026
The Issue
We respectfully urge the Korean Lacrosse Association (KLA) to approve the participation of US-based Koreans and Korean-American lacrosse players in the Heritage Cup 2026, scheduled for May 22–25, 2026 at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
The Korean Heritage Lacrosse Association (KHLA) is a US-based non-profit organization formed to support Koreans and Korean-Americans playing lacrosse. The Heritage Cup is more than a competition. it is an "an opportunity for US-based athletes to contribute to the development of international lacrosse by raising awareness, funds and participating in equipment drives" that benefit the global lacrosse community.
Our goal is to honor Korean heritage through lacrosse, foster international collaboration, and ensure meaningful representation on this global stage. Without KLA’s approval, US-based players of Korean descent are denied the opportunity to proudly represent their heritage and strengthen ties between Korea and the United States.
KHLA remains in active communication with KLA to determine the best path forward. While KLA has expressed understandable concerns about supporting an event held abroad, KHLA has proposed multiple partnership options to ensure success—including assuming full operational responsibility for the event and directing all fundraising proceeds to KLA.
Granting this approval will:
- Showcase Korean-American talent on an international platform
- Strengthen cultural unity through sport
- Empower Korean-American communities by fostering connection and pride
- Advance the development of international lacrosse through awareness, fundraising, and equipment drives
We call on KLA to allow these athletes to wear Korea’s colors at Heritage Cup 2026. Such a decision will celebrate diversity, promote cultural exchange, and unite the Korean-American lacrosse community.
Together, let us make Heritage Cup 2026 a true celebration of Korean heritage, unity, and global lacrosse.
