Petition to the Prime Minister and the House of Lords Appointments Commission

Appoint Bishop Ceirion H. Dewar FSHC to the House of Lords

We, the undersigned citizens of the United Kingdom and beyond, call upon His Majesty’s Government and the House of Lords Appointments Commission to give immediate and serious consideration to the appointment of Bishop Ceirion H. Dewar FSHC to the House of Lords.

At a time when public trust in institutions is declining, when millions feel disconnected from political leadership, and when Britain’s Christian heritage is increasingly marginalised within public life, the nation requires voices that are independent, courageous, and rooted in service to ordinary people.

For many years, Bishop Dewar has stood in the public square advocating for freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, family life, charitable action, community responsibility, and the preservation of Britain’s Christian inheritance. He has done so without the support of political parties, institutional privilege, or establishment patronage.

Whether one agrees with his views or not, few can deny that he has become a recognised and influential voice for a vast multitude of Christians and members of the public who believe their concerns are no longer adequately represented within the institutions of the nation. Indeed, among many supporters across Britain and beyond, he has become affectionately and lovingly known as “The People’s Archbishop”—not by virtue of office or title, but because of his willingness to stand alongside ordinary men and women, to speak plainly, and to represent concerns often overlooked by those in positions of power.

The House of Lords exists in part to ensure that individuals of proven service, leadership, experience, and public significance contribute to the governance of the United Kingdom. We believe Bishop Dewar has demonstrated those qualities through years of public ministry, charitable engagement, pastoral leadership, and advocacy within the national conversation.

This petition therefore calls upon the Prime Minister and the House of Lords Appointments Commission to recognise the substantial public support for Bishop Dewar and to give immediate and serious consideration to his appointment as an independent peer.

This is not merely a question of one individual.

It is a question of whether the millions of ordinary men and women who continue to value faith, family, community, duty, freedom, and Britain’s Christian foundations are entitled to meaningful representation within the nation’s highest institutions.

The Government cannot credibly claim to champion diversity of thought whilst overlooking one of the largest and most enduring faith communities in the country. Nor can it ignore the growing desire among many citizens to see independent voices—unbound by party politics and establishment interests—given a place within the national legislature.

We therefore respectfully but firmly call upon His Majesty’s Government and the House of Lords Appointments Commission to consider the appointment of Bishop Ceirion H. Dewar FSHC to the House of Lords, thereby ensuring that the concerns, convictions, and aspirations of countless ordinary citizens continue to be heard within the councils of the nation.

Britain’s Christian heritage helped build the institutions, liberties, and traditions that continue to shape our national life. Those who seek to preserve that inheritance deserve a voice at the highest levels of public service and national deliberation.

Add your name if you believe Britain needs courageous, independent Christian leadership within Parliament.

“Let the voice of ordinary people be heard.”
