Appoint a Caring Principal at Garfield Elementary School

Appoint a Caring Principal at Garfield Elementary School
The Issue
When my son was in the second grade, he needed to be evaluated for special education. I had so much trouble getting help for my son and the principal did not help. She told me that I needed to look for help somewhere else. After many meetings and me advocating for my son he finally got an IEP program. He’s now in the Fourth grade.
Our children deserve more than just a figurehead in the principal's office—they deserve a leader who is truly invested in their wellbeing and success. However, the current principal at our local school in West Long Beach has consistently failed to provide adequate support and guidance to families with unique needs, like ours.
A school principal's role is crucial in fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment. They need to engage with students, represent the community's interests, and most importantly, make decisions that prioritize the holistic development of each child. This is not what we have been experiencing at our school.
On many occasions, both I and many other parents have felt dismissed and unsupported by the current administration. Children needing special support have been overlooked, leaving parents to fend for themselves navigating complicated educational pathways without guidance.
Other regions show us a model where principals are not only educational leaders but also active community players. These leaders participate actively in ensuring that every student’s potential is maximized. They work tirelessly with educators, parents, and community members to create a thriving environment for all students.
By appointing a principal truly dedicated to every student's success and committed to addressing community concerns, we can create a positive change. We need a principal who understands the diverse needs of our students and works alongside us to fulfill these needs.
Let’s demand leadership that listens, understands, and acts—starting at the top with the appointment of a principal who truly cares about our children and community.
Sign this petition to urge the decision-makers to appoint a principal in West Long Beach who'll put our kids and community first. Together, we can ensure that our schools are places where every child has the support they need to succeed.
