GOSSIP APP - Encouraging anonymous cyber bullying

The Issue

The new phone app, "Gossip", has been trending in and out of high schools. For those of you who do not know anything about this app, you may want to take a few seconds to read this.

"Gossip" is an app were people can anonymously send in "gossip" about others and tag the person they are speaking about. Anyone who has the app and has either the person who posted the gossip or who is being gossiped about's number, can see the post.

As a high school student who has been witness to bullying for many years, I cannot stand seeing other teenagers using an app to spread rumors and talk badly about others. This app is not only encouraging bullying, but it is also making it easier for kids to bully and justify their actions by saying "it's funny" or "it's just a joke." What I cannot understand is how telling someone to "kill yourself" or "cut yourself" is even close to a joke. Those are just a few of the extremely ugly things kids are telling one another in my school. We are questioning why the rate of suicide and depression has increased for the teenage age group, but this is a great reason why. Social media and now apps like these are making it much easier for kids to participate in bullying others. It's time to take this matter seriously and put a stop to it.

Here is the website for the app - http://appligossip.com/

Here is my email for any questions, suggestions, or if you are interested in seeing some of the things being posted on the app - sammyloza@msn.com

Please help share this petition to all your friends and family! Cyber bullying does not end by letting it slide by and hoping it will "cool down." It ends when people stand up for those who are being affected and harmed.
