Apple inclusion for siri

The Issue

The lack of representation in siri voice options.

Why isn’t there a black woman voice option for Siri? Even if any of the voices used are ethnically African-American that tells me it was through a Eurocentric lens. It’s infuriating, this company knows representation matters in all of it’s attempts to be at the forefront of change. This tells me that you aren’t actually thinking about the many cultures that exist within the apple community despite all the support we provide in our hard earned dollars. There is no single sound to the American female, that sound varies in the ebb and flow of the Latinx from the Bronx, it’s in the twang of the the black people from Louisville, in the sounds of those from San Gabriel and so much more that isn’t specific to North America. This is not to negate the work already done, Instead it is to push the boundaries of what you think it means to operate with diversity and inclusivity in mind. It’s not just in the way you hire. It’s not just the faces of those placed in advertisements. It’s in the subtle ways that you communicate that this product, this company does not see me. Does not see my unique experience as a way to improve user experience. Therefore we will always be customers that are an afterthought and if anything 2020 has done, is heightened my exahustion of being an afterthought.

So I submit to you person reading this to change the narrative even if it’s one person at a time.
