Permit a User to Merge or Consolidate Multiple Apple IDs/Accounts

The Issue

For the purpose of this petition the terms "Apple ID" and "account" are used interchangeably. "Multiple Apple IDs" refers to IDs owned by a single user.

Some users have multiple Apple IDs by choice. Many iCloud and iOS 5 users have two (or more) Apple IDs of necessity, one created before and one created after the launch of MobileMe.

Multiple Apple IDs result in at least three problems:
(1) Updating apps originally downloaded with two different Apple IDs requires logging in twice to update all apps if different apps exist in the two accounts. If either account has only free apps associated with it, the free apps in Account B can be downloaded to Account A to solve the problem. This solution can take a lot of time if many apps need to be moved.
(2) If a user has two or more accounts with purchased apps, the purchased apps cannot be moved (or merged) into a single account; repurchase of the apps is the only way to consolidate them. This can be costly if the apps are expensive.
(3)Using certain new features of iOS 5 may be cumbersome due to split libraries.

It seems that there exists sufficient unique user data in multiple accounts owned by a single user for Apple to program a suitable fix for these problems.
