Emojis are currently all the rage when it comes to mobile commumication and social media. When there are no words to fully describe, or you want extra emphasis to what you are saying, emojis get the point accross in a fun way. 

I have been playing volleyball for 3 years and love to share picutres with family and friends, espicially over social platforms like email and Instagram. When I post picutres of my team at torunaments and other volleyball-related functions, I feel my posts are lacking without a volleyball emoji. Instead I am forced hashtag, #whyistherenotavolleyballemoji to try to express the hole in my heart which would be filled with a volleyball emoji, if there was one.

Currently on Instagram, there are over 3.5 million posts with the hashtag #volleyball, 3,000 posts with the hashtag #volleyballemoji and 243 post with the hashtag #weneedavolleyballemoji. (Sadly, there are only 25 posts with my personal favorite: #whyistherenotavolleyballemoji) The volleyball community has expressed their needs and they have the right to be heard!

According to sporteology.com, volleyball is the 6th (out of 10th) most popular sport worldwide, with over 900 million 'fans.' Baseball, American football, golf and Rugby all have emojis related to their sport and are ranked below volleyball. (Baseball = 8th, football/rugby = 9th and golf = 10th. A community of 900 million strong deserves to be able to celebrate their sport with an approperate emoji. Please consider adding a volleyball emoji to your 21 current sport-related emojis.
