There is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed by the U.S judicial and legislative system. As can be assumed, I am a Florida resident. Not too long ago, a bill was brought forth and passed by Florida's Governor, Ron DeSantis; the "Immigration Law SB 1718" to be exact. "Immigration Law SB 1718" criminalizes Floridians who shelter, support, and provide transportation to undocumented immigrants, including those who have overstayed their visa, or who have lived in Florida for decades and have US born children. This bill makes it difficult for immigrants to provide for their families. It harms businesses by authorizing FDLE to conduct random checks of businesses to ensure compliance, and it also prohibits public funding for community IDs and requires hospitals to inquire of Medicaid patients whether they’re lawfully allowed in the country and to collect that data. Immigrants are being denied basic human rights as a result of this bill, which is a violation of the U.S. constitution; it is inhumane. Florida is a a melting pot of various, different cultures and ethnicities. For this bill to be pass, it is extremely disheartening and shows how our country needs to do better. If "Immigration Law SB 1718" can be passed, who's to say that Ron DeSantis won't abuse the rest of his power by creating another harmful law. I cannot plead with you enough to help me (and other Floridians) put an end to this discrimination.
