Appeal Council Bill 2025-048 (McClure, Hosmer) ORDINANCE 6918 Prohibiting Lane Splitting

Appeal Council Bill 2025-048 (McClure, Hosmer) ORDINANCE 6918 Prohibiting Lane Splitting
The Issue
As a devoted motorcyclist, I've personally experienced the safety that lane filtering at red lights provides—it prevents riders from being crushed during rear-end collisions. However, the city's current ordinance, making lane splitting/filtering illegal, threatens the safety of motorcyclists like myself. Studies highlight how this practice reduces traffic congestion and improves road safety. A groundbreaking report from the University of California, Berkeley found that when done in moderation, lane splitting is relatively safe and can even reduce the risk of rear-end collisions (UC Berkeley, 2015). This petition seeks to appeal the current city ordinance and advocate for the rights and safety of all motorcyclists. It's our right to ride with confidence and safety on public roads. It's time for change. Sign this petition to reverse the city ordinance prohibiting lane splitting.
