Hi,
A reminder that the Town has shut down its utility billing system until July 7 as Apex transitions to a new billing system. Apex utility customers will receive a paper bill this month with a new account number. You may pay by paper (mail it in) or walk it in. Beginning July 7, you will need to set up a new profile in order to pay online.
We are one year after the system was impacted by a cyber-attack, and we have yet to learn anything meaningful other than all departments were affected, but the utility department was hit the hardest, according to the Town.
Some customers report that they are still not receiving the correct bill despite the Town's third-party audit which showed the vast majority of customers were underbilled.
A few questions:
- How were councilmembers impacted? Were they under-or-overbilled?
- Why would anyone "Opt In" for a bill review if he or she might have to pay even more?
- Who will cover the outstanding $300,000.00 that was not collected over the past year?
Finally, be aware that the Town has implemented another tax hike on utilities beginning today (the new fiscal year).
While the Town has implemented weekly updates per our request, there is still too much we do not yet know about the attack. I will continue to be your voice on this issue (and others). I hope you will share this petition. Thank you.
