Demand Assemblies of God to Take a Stand Against Jeanne Mayo's Abuse
The Issue
On June 4, 2020, Victory Church in Norcross, GA (employer of Jeanne Mayo since 2012) released a statement that Atlanta Leadership College was being permanently shut down due to sexual misconduct allegations against the director of the program, Jordan Marcon. Jordan has directly reported to Jeanne Mayo in professional, ministry capacities since he was 17 years old. It was announced that Jeanne Mayo had resigned from Victory Church effective immediately, and was choosing to continue focus on her other ministries Youth Leader's Coach and The Cadre.
On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, a private facebook group was created for alumni and former staff of Atlanta Leadership College formerly known as Master's Commission Atlanta which allowed students to process their grief and share their own stories from their time sitting under the leadership of Jeanne Mayo. Within a few days, the group had over 500 members, and hundreds of stories outlining the spiritual abuse, bullying, hazing, racism, and misconduct they endured during their time there at the hands of either Jeanne Mayo herself, or other staff members. It also became evident that several previous staff and alumni had approached Jeanne Mayo directly with accusations of sexual misconduct by Jordan Marcon dating back as early as 2007. In story after story, the people that brought these things to Jeanne's attention were ostracized from the culture and labeled "trouble makers", often resulting in their dismissal from the program or termination from the organization shortly after. The personal experiences outlined in this group have outlined a pattern of systematic abuse and manipulation from Jeanne Mayo.
On Thursday, June 11, 2020, Victory Church in Norcross, GA posted an update to their original message which can both be found at https://www.alconline.org/ This second update mentioned how horrified they were at the stories of abuse. They acknowledged that it was evident that spiritual abuse, bullying, and hazing had taken place at Atlanta Leadership College/Master's Commission Atlanta. They announced they were severing all ties between themselves and Jeanne Mayo Ministries due to the abuses her leadership allowed.
We are asking that The Assemblies of God headquarters acknowledge the abuse that took place in a program affiliated with the Assemblies of God (Master's Commission). We are also requesting that they sever all ties with Jeanne Mayo and any ministry she is affiliated with immediately. For years, the Assemblies of God has highlighted Jeanne Mayo's "The Cadre" as a place for their youth ministers and leaders to go to be trained in doing youth ministry right. It is our belief that until Jeanne Mayo receives in-depth counseling and healing, she is unfit to be training the next generation of church leaders. We fear if she continues training youth ministers on how to run their ministries the cycle of abuse will not be broken and will do irreparable harm to The Kingdom of God. We are seeking accountability and acknowledgment that the harm we endured at her hand is unacceptable and will no longer be allowed.
