It is clear that The Bronx Defenders have forever been the enemies of law enforcement. However, their disgraceful and flagrant celebrations of violent acts toward members of law enforcement, most recently the tragic death of NYPD Officer Brian Mulkeen, warrants a strong public outcry to strip them of any public funding they receive.

It should not be the burden of taxpayers to fund this anti-law enforcement entity. If they wish to espouse these views, it is their choice to do so, but it should not be through taxpayer (state or federal) funds.

This has gone on for far too long. The time has come for like minds to come together, voice our position in a respectful but strong, unequivocal manner, and stand together against the anti-law enforcement mantra being pushed by The Bronx Defenders.

THE UNCLE MURDA VIDEO:

In 2015, The Bronx Defenders employees participated in the production of a music video for a song by artist Uncle Murda. A simple web search can fully educate anybody on the background of this; however, the video utilized The Bronx Defenders offices, featured The Bronx Defenders logo, and most heinously depicted individuals pointing firearms directly at the head of a uniformed NYPD police officer.

Two Bronx Defender attorneys resigned, and the director of The Bronx Defenders was suspended 60 days. Yet, despite the fact that The Bronx Defenders employees endorsed in, participated in, and used their offices, there is no indication that they lost a single dollar of public funding.

THE DEATH OF POLICE OFFICER BRIAN MULKEEN:

The death of Police Officer Brian Mulkeen is a tragic incident. To characterize his death as a murder at the hands of NYPD officers, which is what Bronx Defenders attorneys Anne Dean and Deborah Lolai have now done, is a gross misrepresentation at the very least. It disrespects the ultimate sacrifice of Officer Mulkeen, irresponsibly ignores the truth of what happened, and pushes the transparent anti-law enforcement message that embodies the culture within The Bronx Defenders.

Officer Mulkeen was not murdered by NYPD officers. I am sure he would tell Anne Dean and Deborah Lolai the same. The man he was struggling with was a convicted felon, carrying a firearm, and who was (from what we have been told thus far) attempting to grab Officer Mulkeen’s service weapon. Had he been able to get ahold of Officer Mulkeen’s firearm, he would have killed him, as well as the other officers. The decision of the other officers to shoot, and unfortunately cause the death of Officer Mulkeen, is the sole cause of the convicted and armed felon he was attempting to arrest. That isn’t a murder at the hands of the NYPD.
