Anti Social Behaviour in Peebles

The Issue

Peebles Community Council are very aware of the current concerns of residents regarding the current spate of anti-social behaviour. Many of our residents are frightened and, understandably, perceive that little action is being taken by those charged with those responsibilities. For many years We have been trying, unsuccessfully, to increase the level of policing in the town to tackle the rising levels of anti-social behaviour. Unfortunately Police Scotland seem to lack the resources to tackle these issues head on. The Community Council is in the process of trying to address some of the underlying issues including working with others to try and introduce a street pastor scheme in the town. We acknowledge that this alone will not solve the problems of anti-social behaviour. We have also written to our local councillors in an effort to encourage Scottish Borders Council to implement and work to their own anti-social behaviour policies to try and address our concerns.

In the meantime, the Community Council is mounting this petition to call upon Scottish Borders Council and Police Scotland to work together and with members of our community to try and solve these ongoing issues. To sign our petition, please follow the link.
