Regional Bike Trail & Linwood Wildlife Science Center Trail Connection

The Issue

Trail connectivity, park improvement, and educational enhancement to parks and trails within Linwood Township and to its surrounding areas would greatly benefit the inhabitants of this and surrounding communities. There are health (trail usage), economic (construction and links to downtown shopping), social/community (links to gathering areas), environmental (nature awareness and less motor travel), and educational (Linwood School Forest, Windswept Prairie, and Wildlife Science Center) advantages to name a few. Linwood is in the heart of an area that has already been designated by several organizations as being ideal for trail connections so it is more a matter of funding and legalities than a question whether improvements should be made. All of the included bike, hike, cross country ski, etc. trails listed herein are intended to be primarily non-motorized and will utilize existing transportation easements when possible. Note, habitat restoration thru such means as eliminating invasive species may be necessary on some trails and is covered by several grant sources, but will not be addressed in this proposal.

The following plans are trail connections to regionally significant public land, park improvements, and educational enhancement in the northern metro, which mostly coincides with the county plans for the Anoka County Regional Trail. These have the greatest benefits to the public but the cost is considerable. Much of these plans coincide with several other organizations, and it will be necessary to work closely in conjunction with them to meet these goals (see Appendices for Metropolitan Council, Kiwi Snowmobile Grant-In-Aid Trail, Anoka County Parks, Chisago County Bike Trails, Isanti County Bike Trails, East Bethel, Wyoming, County Road Highway Funding, etc.).
