At the March 1st Anoka City Council meeting, the Council voted 3-2 to disband the Anoka Human Rights Commission. The majority felt it would be advantageous to "convert" the Commission to a 501(c)3. The general theme of the discussion was that a Board or Commission focusing on Human Rights has no place in the structure of government.
This vote will be followed by an ordinance change removing any reference to the Human Rights Commission from the City Code. It will need to be reviewed at two future City Council meetings before it is finalized. Currently, future agendas have not been published but you can watch for them to be posted through the link below.
