The Human Rights Commission has two vacancies. This is a five member Commission and needs at least three members present to have a quorum. The City Council met on Tuesday, February 16th. When Council Member Skogquist requested the Council fill the vacancies, a decision that has been delayed since December, the majority of the Council declined to do so. The general topic of the Human Rights Commission has been added to the March 1st Council meeting agenda.
What will this discussion involve?
After the meeting on January 25th, in which a few Council members fixated on the idea of converting the HRC to a 501(c)3, it's safe to assume the discussion on March 1st will focus on this also. The Commission has communicated to the Council its desire to remain a five member Commission and continue to act in an advisory role to the Council.
