Maintain Elementary School Boundaries on Broadneck Peninsula
The Issue
The stakeholders (parents, students, community members) oppose redistricting of 108 students from Broadneck Elementary to Cape St. Claire. Redistricting at this time will be a SHORT TERM SOLUTION to over-crowding, while allowing more development to occur on the Broadneck Peninsula.
The option proposed involves sending students that are currently thriving in their home school communities to another school. This solution does not address capacity issues at other schools on the peninsula that are nearing 100% with development continuing to occur. Redistricting children from their current schools would allow Broadneck Elementary to become "open " for more development. In contrast, Cape St. Claire would experience an influx of 100+ children. Furthermore, the children would be subjected to the transition of an under-populated school becoming "Near Capacity". This solution transfers any concerns regarding school resources to Cape St. Claire.
Redistricting at this time is a band-aid solution that will ultimately lead to more over-crowding and a need for redistricting again in the future. Our children are not numbers on a spreadsheet and should not be treated as such. Please sign this petition to prevent our children from being moved.
